THE STORY OF TRUE WEALTH

The Story of True Wealth: A Lesson About Friendship

Recommended Age: 4 – 8 years

The Story of True Wealth begins in a big, big forast, where four inseparable friends lived.

They played together, laughed together, and were always there for one another.

But one day, Little Squirrel began to behave very differently…

He started keeping something from his friends and disappearing into the forest more and more often.

What had happened to Little Squirrel?

And why did his little secret change his life so much?

Four Friends

The Big, Big Forest

In the same big, big forest, where the pine trees whispered to the wind and the streams sang their silver songs, there lived four friends: a prickly but kind Hedgehog, a quick and curious Little Rabbit, a big and gentle Bear Cub, and a nimble, cheerful Little Squirrel.

Friendship in the Forest Clearing

The four friends often met in their favorite clearing.

Each of them brought something delicious, and together they enjoyed little forest feasts.

The friends always helped one another, played together, laughed, and enjoyed every new day.

And among them there was one little animal who was especially good at saving things.

The Little Squirrel Who Loved to Save

Nuts and Secret Hideaways

The Little Squirrel was always the most careful and well-prepared of them all.

He knew where the sweetest nuts grew, could find hidden tree hollows, and arranged his supplies so neatly that anyone would have admired how organized he was.

And his friends were always proud of him.

An Amazing Discovery

But one day, Little Squirrel made an incredible discovery.

As he made his way through an old, moss-covered ravine, he came upon a huge oak tree.

Little Squirrel discovers a hidden hollow filled with nuts inside an old oak tree

Inside it was a large hollow space — a real kingdom of nuts!

There were mountains of hazelnuts, acorns, and even sweet chestnuts.

It seemed as though this treasure had been gathering there for centuries.

“Now I’m the Richest Squirrel in the World!”

Little Squirrel’s eyes lit up.

He jumped for joy, spun around, and danced.

“It’s mine! All mine! Now I’m the richest squirrel in the world!”

But then a thought crossed his mind.

“What if I tell my friends?”

“They might ask me to share.”

“What if they want to take some nuts from here too?”

“Then my treasure will disappear!”

“No, I won’t tell anyone.”

“This will be my secret.”

And Little Squirrel did something he had never done before: he kept his discovery a secret.

A Little Secret

 A Treat in the Clearing

The next day, the friends gathered in the clearing.

Little Rabbit brought fresh berries, Bear Cub brought fragrant honey, and Hedgehog brought freshly baked cakes made from acorn flour.

“Little Squirrel, what did you bring?” asked Little Rabbit, offering him a berry.

“I… didn’t bring anything,” muttered Little Squirrel, looking away.

“I don’t have any supplies.”

The First Lie

Hedgehog raised an eyebrow in surprise.

“How can that be?”

“You’re always the one with the biggest supplies!”

“Well… I ate everything,” lied Little Squirrel, turning away.

The friends looked at one another but said nothing.

They shared their berries, honey, and cakes with him.

Little Squirrel accepted the food, but his heart felt heavy.

Every bite was hard to swallow.

He knew he was deceiving the friends he loved.

A Treasure That Became a Secret

Days went by.

Little Squirrel began running into the forest alone more and more often, always returning to his secret oak tree.

He sat beside the piles of nuts and counted them, sorted them, and gently touched them.

But the nuts did not smile at him, tell him funny stories, or invite him to play hide-and-seek.

They were cold and silent.

The Friends Notice the Change

What Happened to Little Squirrel?

Meanwhile, the friends noticed that Little Squirrel had become strange.

He stopped laughing, avoided their games, and whenever they called him, he waved them away and ran into the forest.

“What’s wrong with him?” worried Little Rabbit.

“Maybe he is sick?” wondered Bear Cub.

Hedgehog Knows Something Is Wrong

“No,” said Hedgehog quietly.

“I saw him near the old oak tree.”

“He was sitting there and looking at something, but when I came closer, he hid.”

“I think he is keeping something from us.”

The Friends Wait

But no one blamed Little Squirrel.

They simply waited and continued inviting him to join them, leaving some treats for him each time.

The friends believed that one day Little Squirrel would tell them what was wrong.

The Storm Over the Forest

A Terrible Night

One night, a terrible storm swept through the forest.

The wind howled, the trees creaked and groaned, and the rain poured down.

Little Squirrel tossed and turned in his little nest and could not sleep.

Worry About His Hidden Supplies

His heart was pounding with fear — not for himself, but for that very oak tree where his treasure was hidden.

“Please, let it stand! Please, don’t fall!” he whispered.

The Morning After the Storm

In the morning, the storm finally stopped.

Little Squirrel flew out of his nest and raced toward his oak tree.

Then he froze in horror.

The mighty old oak had fallen, split right down the middle.

The entrance to his storage hollow was buried beneath huge branches, earth, and stones.

All his nuts — every single one! — were buried beneath the heavy debris.

Lost Wealth

Little Squirrel’s Despair

Little Squirrel fell to his knees and burst into tears.

“No! No! My wealth! Everything I collected… it’s all gone!”

He tried to move the branches with his little paws, but they were far too heavy.

Calling for Help

He called for help, but his voice was lost in the sound of the rushing stream.

Despair completely overwhelmed him.

The Little Squirrel felt terribly alone.

The Friends Set Out to Find Him

Meanwhile, back in the clearing, the friends suddenly realized:

“Where is Little Squirrel? He hasn’t been here all morning!”

“Maybe he is in trouble?” worried Little Rabbit.

“Let’s go find him!” said Hedgehog firmly.

They followed his tracks — tiny squirrel footprints leading straight toward the fallen oak.

The Friends Come to Help

Meeting at the Old Oak

There they found Little Squirrel — wet, trembling, and crying, desperately trying to clear away the branches.

“Little Squirrel! What happened?” shouted Bear Cub.

Little Squirrel turned around.

When he saw his friends, he cried even harder.

“I… I kept it from you! This was my storage hollow!”

“I found mountains of nuts and didn’t tell anyone!”

“I was afraid you would take my wealth…”

“I was greedy and foolish!”

“And now everything is gone! I’ve lost everything!”

The friends looked at one another.

There was no anger or resentment on their faces.

Only sadness for their friend.

“You Haven’t Lost Us”

Hedgehog stepped forward first and placed his prickly paw gently on Little Squirrel’s shoulder.

“You lost your nuts, Little Squirrel. But you haven’t lost us. We are here.”

“But I lied to you! I didn’t tell you and I didn’t share with you!” sobbed Little Squirrel.

“Do you remember how many times we shared with you?” asked Little Rabbit.

“Berries, honey, cakes.”

“We never counted.”

“Because friendship isn’t about keeping score.”

 All Together

The Work Begins

Bear Cub stepped forward, gently moved Little Squirrel aside, and began clearing the fallen branches with his powerful paws.

Four woodland friends clearing fallen branches together
“Move the branches!” he called.  “We’ll dig everything out! All together!”

And they got to work.

Everyone Helps

Little Rabbit carried small branches.

Hedgehog dug through the earth.

Bear Cub lifted heavy logs.

And Little Squirrel — now no longer alone, but surrounded by his friends — helped as much as he could.

They worked together until evening.

The Storage Hollow Is Cleared

By evening, the storage hollow had been cleared.

The nuts were mixed with dirt, and many had been ruined — but most of them were still safe.

Little Squirrel looked at them and cried, this time with relief.

 True Wealth

Words from the Heart

He hugged each of his friends and whispered:

“Forgive me. I understand now…”

Frour woodland friends - a hedgehog, rabbit, bear cub, and squirrel - hugging together in friendship

“True wealth isn’t the nuts I keep for myself.”

“True wealth is you.”

“It is having someone to share your happiness with, someone you can rely on, and knowing that you are loved and forgiven.”

Hedgehog’s Wisdom

Hedgehog smiled.

“You have understood the most important thing.”

“Greed makes us blind.”

“We stop seeing those who are right beside us.”

“And generosity multiplies happiness.”

“When we share, happiness grows.”

“Now It Will Be Our Shared Storage Hollow!”

“Let’s share all the nuts!” cried Little Squirrel.

Four woodland friends sharing nuts in ther shared storage hollow

“From now on, this will be our shared storage hollow! For everyone!”

And they divided the nuts equally.

The remaining nuts were placed in a new hollow that Bear Cub carved out.

Above the entrance, they wrote:

“FOR EVERYONE”

Wealth That Multiplies

Little Squirrel’s New Life

From that day on, Little Squirrel never hid his supplies again.

He knew that whatever he found, he would always bring it back and share it.

And his friends always did the same for him.

Generosity Makes You Richer

Sometimes, when one of the forest animals wondered why they had so much and shared it so easily, Little Squirrel would smile and say:

“It feels much better to be generous than greedy.”

“Try it, and you will understand.”

“When you give, you don’t become poorer.”

“You become richer.”

“Richer in friendship, love, and warmth.”

A New Day

And they all laughed, hugged one another, and enjoyed the new day together.

The forest once again filled with the song of the stream, the rustling of the leaves, and the joyful laughter of the friends.

Their shared storage hollow, with the words “FOR EVERYONE” above its entrance, became a symbol of true friendship.

The Wise Owl’s Words

And the Wise Owl, flying past, nodded approvingly.

“That’s right, Little Squirrel.”

“The one who keeps everything for himself may lose what matters most, while the generous heart gains something priceless.”

The  Moral of  the  Story  of  True Weaith

True wealth is not something we can hide away and keep only for ourselves.

True wealth is friendship, love, trust, helping one another, and the joy we can share with others.

When we share goodness, it does not become smaller — it multiplies.

Sometimes the greatest wealth cannot be placed in a chest or hidden away in a storage hollow.

It lives right beside us — in the hearts of the people we love.

From that day on, there was even more laughter, friendship, and kindness in the big, big forest.

Little Squirrel learned a simple but very important secret: the most precious things in life are the things we can share with others.

When friends are by our side, when our hearts are filled with love, and kindness passes from one little paw to another, kindness only grows.

And every new dayreminded the four friends:

True wealth lives where there is love, friendship, and an open heart.
